1. jay and kaoru bump into each other in the hallway and introduce themselves. koga stumbles upon the two and causes a scene. he scolds kaoru before dragging jay off.
2. jay finds kaoru the next day to apologize. kaoru reassures her that it’s no problem and invites her to join him for lunch.

4. this is inspired by the boy and the sea. kaoru’s on the beach when he notices a puppy. while playing with it, he’s approached by jay. he then finds out it’s her dog. kaoru offers to walk her home since it’s getting late and she’s very appreciative. this helps her warm up to him.
5. kaoru goes to the infirmary to ditch class and finds jay resting. she admits she has a headache and kaoru pieces together that she’s overworking herself. he reminds her that she’s not alone and that it’s okay to rely on others, especially him.summer

8. jay is crying on the rooftop. kaoru notices her and asks what’s wrong. she tells him she was tasked with knitting outfits for a unit’s upcoming live but was unable to make the deadline, causing the unit leader to scold her and criticize her work ethic. she considers dropping out of the course but kaoru reassures her.

10. jay pricks her finger while sewing and goes to the infirmary. she notices kaoru while looking for bandages and he asks what’s wrong. she tells him her situation and he finds the bandages to patch her up. as he patches her up he praises her for how hard she’s working but once again tells her not to push herself. jay thanks him and asks what he’s doing in the infirmary. he brushes it off but jay knows something’s up since his eyes are a bit puffy. kaoru opens up to her about his mother’s death.

jay admits to kaoru that she’s never been to an aquarium so kaoru invites her! it starts to get crowded which makes jay nervous but kaoru picks up on this and takes her hand so they “wouldn’t lose each other.” jay enjoys the feeling of kaoru’s hand in her own and realizes her feelings for him.autumn
12. koga decides to confront jay by asking if she has feelings for kaoru. she admits her crush but adds that she doesn’t plan to act on it due to her own insecurities and kaoru’s idol status. koga scolds her for speaking so lowly of herself and reassures her. jay, touched by koga’s words, cries and hugs him abruptly. kaoru notices the two from afar and gets a strange feeling in his gut. during undead practice the next day, kaoru hints the idea of koga and jay dating in secret to koga and is shut down immediately. kaoru’s relieved for some reason.winter

16. jay and kaoru are walking home from school and jay starts to feel sick due to the cold temperatures. kaoru suggests she rests at his place since it’s closer. jay falls asleep in his bed and as kaoru admires her as she rests, he realizes he likes her.

18. jay and kaoru talk about how close graduation is and their futures on the school rooftop. both of them, once hesitant about what path they wanted to take, are now sure about pursuing an idol and producer career respectively. kaoru brings up how proud he is of jay for her growth throughout the year and she admits she couldn’t have done it without his help. kaoru shyly denies this, claiming he didn’t do much, yet she’s insistent on thanking him. kaoru teasingly says she could thank him with a kiss, and before he could add on that he was only joking, jay kisses his cheek.

jay stops by kaoru's dorm room as he was in the midst of practicing guitar for his upcoming performance. he offers to play her a tune, yet winces due to the bruises on his fingers. jay offers to patch him up, and admits to keeping bandages on her ever since their interaction in the infirmary. she lightly scolds him for pushing himself too hard, unknowingly using his own words against him from last year. she then praises him for being such a sweet brother. kaoru grows flustered from not only her words, but the feeling of her hands against his own. this is a parallel to scenario 10.

21. after months of planning, kaoru decides it's time to confess. he invites jay to join him for a walk on the beach. as they suddenly stop to admire the sunset, kaoru finds himself admiring jay instead. this is a parallel to when she admired him during aquarium. before he can stop himself, he slips out an 'i love you.' kaoru hurries to elaborate, but is unable to form a coherent sentence. after a minute of silence or so from jay, kaoru asks if she's alright, to which she asks him if he likes her. despite the blush on his face, he answers confidently with yes. through tears, she replies with 'i love you too,' and they share a tight hug.
